6 Top Tips for Nomination Success

The prestigious MJ Awards return on 20th June 2025!

As the premier event in the local government calendar, The MJ Awards showcase the very best in public service.

Here are our 6 top tips for nomination success!

Cast a Wide Net

With so many categories to choose from, there are a handful that are relevant to you, your achievements, projects and local authority, so why not enter them all?

Nominations are free of charge and with a couple of tweaks here and there to your submission, you'll be able to enter more and increase your chances of winning.

Back It Up

One of the main things our judges will be looking for is evidence of a positive impact on your residents and community through your services and projects.

Leverage key statistics and data to illustrate the impact and inform the judges of your KPIs and how you achieved them.

Don't forget that using testimonials from the people you've worked with is another great way to support your entry.

Show Your Impact

Highlighting the impact you've made is one of the biggest factors that should run through every submission.

The judges should finish reading your entry knowing exactly how you've made a difference and the positive effect it has had.

To do this, describe what is special about your achievements and how they made a difference. Let your passion and motivation for your project shine through.

Keep It Clear

Being clear and concise is easier said than done, but what we mean by this is don't leave any room for confusion or doubt.

Plan out your entry first to ensure all of the key points are included, and supplement it with evidence and data and you're already onto a clear and well-structured submission.

Bring It to Life

Bring your submission to life by including materials you used for the project to push its agenda.

This could include photos of the team, examples of project collateral such as posters, infographics used to communicate your key messages, videos, if relevant, before and after images, and photos that illustrate the progress you've made throughout the project.

Don't be shy - this could give you your edge over other submissions so if you've got this evidence, share it with us!

Bite-Sized Approach

We understand writing a nomination submission may fall at the end of your task list when there are many high priorities in your day-to-day.

Our advice is to break your submission into manageable chunks and do a little bit at a time.

Whether it is collating testimonials one day, or writing your introduction the next, doing a little at a time will soon see you completing your submission before you know it.

Don't forget to save as you go!

This is your golden opportunity for your local authority to receive well-deserved recognition.
